Thanks to a donation from ACME Markets to Blessings in a Backpack, 100 students at Chester Community Charter School will have food to eat on the weekends.
On Friday, February 24, ACME Markets presented a check for $10,000 to Blessings in a Backpack. The presentation took place at the Ethel Waters Music & Art Center on the East Campus.
More than 80 percent of the 3,600 scholars at Chester Community Charter School rely on the food served to them at school. For the past three years, the school's partnership with Blessings in a Backpack has helped to feed some of those children for seven days a week instead of just five.
This generous donation is a result of a promotion last summer in which ACME, along with several vendor partners—Skippy, Little Bites, Mama Lucia, Nabisco, and Schmidt’s Italian bread—donated 10 cents of every product purchased to the Blessings in a Backpack “One School at a Time” campaign.
With the generous donation from ACME Markets, CCCS can expand the program from 40 to 100 children.
