A critical intervention that has been instituted at CCCS is the hiring of grade tutors for students in grades 3–8.Tutoring is a proven method of academic intervention that supports academic achievement. CCCS hires college graduates who are then assigned to struggling students in need of additional support in targeted areas that have been identified through benchmark assessments. This supplemental support provides one-to-one tutoring sessions or small group instruction, generally conducted in pull-out sessions during the school day. They also provide literacy and numeracy intervention as prescribed by the classroom teacher and grade director.
Tutoring for students in grades K–2 is provided during the school day by trained volunteers from our partners at Widener, Neumann, and West Chester Universities.
