CCCS Builds a Supportive Community with Elwyn

Elwyn was founded in 1852 and has a mission of making “life better for people with developmental and behavioral health challenges.” Elwyn offers a variety of support for children with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges in locations throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Many of the services Elwyn provides are community-based and integrate education and intervention. Based on the belief that each child is an individual, Elwyn is able to offer collaborative and family-oriented solutions rooted in the principles of recovery and resiliency

Over the past 15 years, CCCS and Elwyn have partnered on programs to provide various needed supports to students experiencing behavioral challenges.  The partnership has had many demonstrated successes.  Today, the school and Elwyn are working together to provide Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) to CCCS students. IBHS services may be appropriate when a child’s behavioral concerns are significant and not addressed successfully through other school supports. The goal is to create opportunities for children with developmental/ behavioral/ emotional challenges and their families to succeed in their natural environment.

IBHS services are funded through PA Medical Assistance at no cost to families. This partnership is the first of its kind in Delaware County. “The plan is to eventually have this program in all school buildings at CCCS. We look forward to our continued partnership with Elwyn for years to come,” says Raeleen Derham.

Raeleen Derham, CCCS’s Director of Student Support, has played a vital role in the school’s continued partnership with Elwyn. Three years ago, we began implementing the Student Therapeutic Services (STS) program at our West campus. Ms. Derham has continued to work with Elwyn throughout the program’s transition from grant funding to the formation of self-sustaining satellite offices on CCCS’s West campus, where students and their families are provided much-needed support.

We look forward to our continued partnership with Elwyn for years to come.”
