CCCS Happenings Making Healthy Eating Fun for Students

First page of the PDF file: freshfruitsveggies114

For the 7th year in a row, Chester Community Charter Schools have been awarded the highly coveted Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant for our elementary schools! We applied for this grant for each individual building and were thrilled to secure it for all of them! With this grant, students will have the opportunity to taste a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables three days a week throughout the school year. Many of these offerings will be new to the children and sourced from outside the local area, while others will showcase the freshest produce Pennsylvania has to offer. Examples include an assortment of grapes, cranberries, purple kohlrabi, gooseberries, and Romanesco.

Smart Partners, a woman-owned business located in the heart of Lancaster County, is responsible for sourcing these delightful foods. They also provide teachers with information about each fruit and vegetable to share with their students. Each month, every school will creatively share how they enjoyed their samples and what they learned. Be sure to check out the CCCS website for the monthly menu, and don’t forget to ask your scholar about the new fruits or vegetables they tried today!
