Saquon Barkley and 20 Scholars

Saquon Barkley Surprises CCCS Scholars at Applebee’s

One member of the Philadelphia Eagles showed students this week that he is a powerhouse both on and off the field. Saquon Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles superstar and proud NFL Champion, made an unforgettable impact on Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) scholars with a surprise visit to feed them lunch. In a heartwarming display of generosity and inspiration, Barkley emerged from the kitchen of a local Applebee’s to deliver burgers and fries to 20 star-struck CCCS students. It was a day these young fans will never forget.

The lucky CCCS students are football and flag football players who were already excited for a special team lunch, but when their waiter was replaced by the Eagles’ youngest legend, they almost couldn’t believe their eyes. The 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year spent time signing autographs, taking photos with students, and sharing some very inspirational wisdom.

“You can be anything,” Barkley told the middle school students, “as long as you put in the effort and have the right mindset.” The message clearly hit home with students who talked about their own goals and aspirations.

Barkley went on to encourage the students to maintain daily practices of push-ups and running laps. He then accepted a challenge of one fifth grader that led the whole group outside to run a race. After winning the race, Barkley gave every student an autographed football.

An Icon on and off the Field
Since joining the Eagles, Barkley’s presence in Philadelphia has been nothing short of monumental. Known for his grit, determination, and unstoppable drive on the football field, Saquon is proving to be just as influential in the community. Taking time out of his demanding schedule to uplift and inspire young minds speaks volumes about his commitment to making a positive difference.

“It’s more than just football,” Barkley shared. “It’s about showing these kids that anything is possible if they put in the work and believe in themselves.”

"Saquon is a great athlete. And he is an more amazing human being,” Dr. David Clark CEO added when asked about the surprise visit. “The way he interacted with our scholar brought tears of joy to my eyes!"

A Day to Remember

The kids didn’t just leave with autographs and photos they walked away with renewed motivation and a sense of hope. In a world where role models often seem distant and untouchable, Barkley’s humble and down-to-earth approach made him a true hero in their eyes.

Applebee’s, which hosted the special event, echoed the sentiments of community pride and unity. “We’re proud to support events like this that uplift our community,” said the restaurant manager. “Seeing the kids’ faces light up was priceless.”

The  Power of Community

This event was more than just a meet-and-greet; it was a testament to the power of community and the impact that athletes like Saquon Barkley can have on the lives of our scholars. As Chester Community Charter School continues to connect with the community, it’s clear that Barkley’s influence will extend far beyond the field.
